#17574 new defect

Unable to associate with ath or rtl USB adapters

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: Trunk

Description

Haven't been able to associate with either of the ath or rtl type USB adapters connected to the brcm2708. Note: only one adapter used at a time. Normally I compile trunk with just the ath drivers to use the TP-link adapter. But I'd like to test the rtl adapters so I've included both RTL drivers in my recent builds. In the build I always also select WPAD and hostapd to get the full encryption options (WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK).
Anyway since the RC series for BB, I have not been able to get associated from a number of different test clients(windows, linux) also trying different AP encryption modes doesn't help.
Both of the adapters are able to scan and see other wireless networks. From the Openwrt side it seems that the adapter is working fine, but clients can't associate.
Any advice or changes needed to get the adapters working with the latest BB would be appreciated.

I wouldn't think that this is a hostapd issue since many others would report this issue. But I suspect wireless drives/USB subsystem issues.
The latest build was RC3 created 8/15/2014

Of what chipset is the AP?
Does this sound familiar:

Doesn't look the same. None of the devices will associate, even phones etc..
The platform is the Raspberry Pi, with chipset brcm2708. No on board wifi chip set so external USB adapters are required.
this is the first time I've biuld the image with both ath9k and RTL wifi chipsets so I'm going to try again with ath9k then RTL in separate images.

So your are running openwrt on RPI as an AP with two different usb-radios?
I didn't get that.

Look closer into wpad-full oder hostapd. Post config from /var/tmp ... whatever hostapd.conf. Remove passwords from the post.

Yes RPI as an AP but only one radio at a time. I've built with different radio capabilities so I could test different adapters.

I'll look at wpad-full in the next build and post the config.

make menuconfig show wpad and wpad-mini. I've been selecting wpad, the description says its the full version. "This package contains a full featured IEEE 802.1x/WPA/EAP/RADIUS │

│ Authenticator and Supplicant "
