#17357 closed defect (wontfix)

wshaper: Error: Could not find the device for network wan, aborting.

Reported by: braveheart_leo@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: wshaper netifd Cc:

Description

It looks like wshaper also needs to be updated to be better integrated into the netifd subsystem.

This log is from first cold boot, when both router and modem have been turned on simultaneously. The router initializes very early before the modem could even finish setting up its DSL link.

The router is running CHAOS CALMER (Bleeding Edge, r41936).

Try openwrt's qos-scripts or cerowrt's sqm system rather than wondershaper.

Thanks for the link. Although I have not yet been initiated into the technicalities contained therein, still it serves as a good reference.

Yes I understand that wshaper in OpenWRT is still the same code wayback in 2002 when wondershaper was last updated. But for my simple setup, it works quite well and I'm observing the goals as set out by wondershaper.

This gives me an opportunity to look at alternatives that are up-to-date and may provide the same or better traffic shaping than wondershaper.

After trying OpenWRT's qos-scripts and CeroWRT's sqm-sripts, it looks like wondershaper may safely be considered obsoleted by the two aforementioned. I'm now using sqm-scripts, keeping qos-scripts for comparison and testing.

This bug report may now be closed.

Would be great to have a guide to installing sqm-scripts on vanilla openwrt.
