#16748 new defect

ip-full isn't installed into rootfs properly

Reported by: labo.openwrt@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Changeset /changeset/39854.html added support for building an ip-full package, which builds the full iproute2 utility.

The problem I am having is that when I select ip-full to be installed, both ip(minimal) and ip-full packages are built and installed with overlapping files (/usr/sbin/ip binary), in effect only installing the minimal version.

I am installing on an ar71xx_mikrotik board with wget2nand, by booting a smaller live image and installing a full version with wget2nand.

Uninstalling ip and ip-full, then reinstalling ip-full installed the proper binary.

You might have to deselect the default "ip minimal" to avoid having installation mishaps. (The same applies to other packages with variants, where one of the variants if the default.)

I thought they were both supposed to be selected, because the minimal version is forced on :)

It can get selected by many combinations of options. In my setup, I think it is selected by:

PACKAGE_strongswan [=y] && PACKAGE_iptables [=y]

If they should be installed together, then the problem are dependencies, that don't allow me to deselect the minimal version.

The dependencies are long and I guess all of them should permit using the full iproute2 version, for a static root.tar.gz build to work. I don't know what to do with them, so I can't submit a patch myself.

If they should *not* be installed together.

I'm experiencing this bug in OpenWrt Chaos Calmer r44594.

The binary from the minimal version overwrites the one from ip-full. I'm compiling from sources, and because the package ip is selected by dependencies, I cannot deselect it.

If I reinstall ip-full with --force-overwrite, I get the full functionality back.

FYI - I've provided a fix in #19299 making strongswan satisfied with ip-full too
