#16 closed enhancement (fixed)

Multiple BSSID feature

Reported by: Vincent Bernat Owned by: nbd
Priority: low Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: 2.0
Keywords: multiple ssid bssid Cc: bernat@…, jonas@…

Description

Firmware 1.9.5.0 from Asus implements the multiple BSSID feature : several AP with different SSID and different security settings (but same channel) can be handled with the same Broadcom radio. This feature is like having as many radio as we want in a WRT54G, with the restriction on the channel and a shared bandwidth. wlconf.c contains functions using this feature. Each "radio" gets its own interface.

It would be nice to get the same feature into OpenWRT.

The new system code and the driver are integrated and seem to work. The old driver has been patched to work with the new code (it's useful to keep it, because it's smaller).

Next step will be integrating the new features in wificonf (and maybe changing a few small things in wlcompat).

wificonf can now set up the new driver including the new virtual interfaces.
wep seems to be broken with the new driver (at least for me).
nas still needs to be integrated

How are the names of the nvram variables to set this up?

Just wondering if any work is still being done on this.... I am very interested in using it. Could I get a copy of the work that has been done so far?

Thanks.

Is there some documentation on how to set up these virtual interfaces?

dd-wrt seems to be able to manage multiple ssid with different WPA settings for each SSID. Is there some progress about this on OpenWrt ?

comment:10 Changed 12 years ago by Vincent Bernat

dd-wrt uses a new wl.o driver (version 4.80.9.2 vs 3.130.20.0) along with an updated nas binary. WEP and WPA work fine with this new version. Additionaly, each virtual interface gets its own MAC address. This does not seem to address the problem that only the first SSID appears in a scan (others are appearing randomly). The driver seems to be clearly a progress over the old driver. I don't know where dd-wrt developer got it.

Hello,
I am still pretty interested in this feature. OpenWRT seems to be the best WRT-Firmware on the market right now (thanks, guys). Anyway, could you possibly use the driver from DD-WRT in your own "distribution"?

I'm also very interested in this feature. Any progress here?

I am also very interested and would be willing to put up some cash for a bounty. Maybe in the 4 digit range.

Multi BSSID is not possible with this driver. Multi SSID is integrated with the new stuff in Kamikazez...
