Description

I investigate a WRT610Nv1 and a WRT610Nv2 with actual trunk and figured out the actual existing and unfixed Problems:

1.) For the WRT610nV1 a "quickfix" in the "uci-default.sh" is nessassary to prevent a boot-loop:

in uci-defaults.sh it must be remarked one line:
#set network.@switch[-1].name='$name'

  • otherwise the device will never boot up!

2.) In LuCi the VLAN-Management is NOT working for the V1-Model.

  • Only watching the Port-Speed is possible!

3.) For Working WLAN-LEDs there is a manual nvram-setting nessassary:

WRT610Nv1:

nvram set pci/1/1/leddc=0x5A000A

4.)
The WLAN-MAC-Fixing for booth models are not working (without patching the CFE´s itself). The usual hardcoded "00:90:xx" WLAN-MACs from the CFE are not rewritten for WLAN-MAC1 +2 and WLAN-MAC +3.
On the V2-Model the LAN-MAC is not correctly set by another script, and here the MAC becomes a "00:90:xx" MAC, too!

5.)
With the actual problems in "netifd" the wlan-mac-addresses can NOT BE manually set with the broadcom-wl driver on booth units!
after a "wifi" the wlan-macs still are back on CFE-defaults!

6.)
By setting more virtual APs on wl0 and wl1 the "virtual" mac-addresses are mixed up unlogical! Basicly the VAPs must become the same mac-adress as the master-interfaces, or minimum highest used MAC+x (the next free mac-address).
In the moment by setting up 1 extra VAP for wl0 and wl1
the wl0 and wl1 itself has different MACs, but the wl0-1 device become THE SAME mac as wl1! The VAP on wl1-1 firstly become the first free MAC-addr over all others (this behaviour is correct)
See Problem 5.) - manual overwrite with "macaddr" is not working, so no quick fixup for now. manual override with "ifconfig wl0-1 hw ether xx:xx" is always reset to defaults after a reload or a "wifi" command!

7.)
HardwareCrypto is NOT working for WRT610nV2/E3000 Model. In the boot-log there is an "unknown" in the device-list. The device-ID is different, so it´s not detected corectly i asume.
The Sentry(5)-Module on the old V1-Modell instead is working and detected correctly.

8.)
In the Wiki are incomplete Informations about an importent HW-difference! Not just the CPU and SoC-Included WLAN-Modul is different - the entire Switch-Support is different:

WRT610Nv1:
uses ONLY TG3+PTP+PPS+HWMON-Kernel Modules (=NO BGMAC!)

WRT610Nv2/E3000:
uses ONLY BGMAC, no PTP, no PPS, no HWMON-Kernel Modules (=NO TG3+extra modules!)

Further More: The problems with reboot-hangings and missing VLAN/Switch-Support in LuCi has todo with the fact, that TG3/BGMAC is handled differently from the actual switch driver.
For setting up the TG3/V1-Model: Switch-Config is made via old NVRAM-Method & reboot of the unit! - Then configure "redundant" in "/etc/config/network" the same things.

The Port-Order for the physical Ports outside and internaly is different for booth models, too.

9.)
Because of "only" 8MB Flash, using the Profile: "All LAN-Driver + wl-propitary" is not a good solution. It´s better
to make 2 Profiles for WRT610Nv1 and WRT610Nv2/E3000. The Reason is the many wasted space for extra needed modules and drivers on the different units!
