#15782 new defect

ISP DNS Servers added twice with PPPoE IPv6 enabled

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: base system Version: Trunk

Description

This does not happen on every (re)connection attempt, but rather quite randomly. And only if IPv6 is enabled (only tested on PPPoE link). It has been around for as long as I can remember, and I've verified it to be particular to OpenWRT, as other devices will not do the same with IPv6 enabled.

root@dexter:/tmp# cat resolv.conf.ppp
nameserver 193.92.150.1
nameserver 193.92.3.11
root@dexter:/tmp# cat resolv.conf.auto
# Interface wan
nameserver 193.92.150.1
nameserver 193.92.3.11
nameserver 193.92.150.1
nameserver 193.92.3.11
# Interface wan6
nameserver 2a02:2148:99:4444::4444
nameserver 2a02:2148:99:4000::4000

Occasionally I've seen the IPv6 DNS servers added twice too, although with a different ISP.

This is generally a non problem but while hacking around to change some DNS related stuff this becomes a bit of a randomness factor, sometimes ISP DNS is added once as normal, and other times it's added twice. I've been trying to narrow it down and I guess I eventually will find the cause, but in case I dont, I thought I'd leave this ticket.

I'm getting the same double DNS as the OP on both wan and wan6 since AA (now on BB 40572).

root@WDR3500:/tmp# cat resolv.conf.ppp

nameserver 212.205.212.205
nameserver 195.170.0.1
root@WDR3500:/tmp# cat resolv.conf.auto

# Interface wan
nameserver 212.205.212.205
nameserver 195.170.0.1
nameserver 212.205.212.205
nameserver 195.170.0.1
# Interface wan6
nameserver 2a02:580:200::100
nameserver 2a02:580:200::200
nameserver 2a02:580:200::100
nameserver 2a02:580:200::200

When only in ipv4, the dns servers get added correctly only one time.

With my ISP, this happens every time, so I guess since the OP sees it randomly and only has the double ipv4 dns, this bug seems somewhat ISP specific.

This is mostly cosmetic (most obvious is when on the luci web interface), but it would be nice to get it fixed nonetheless.
