No uci setting to configure /etc/resolv.conf "domain" implemented?

Description

When running Attitude Adjustment 12.09 without dnsmasq, I am unable to find a way to configure the default search domain for use when resolving plain hostnames:

root@dlink-4cdba7:~# ping $(cat /proc/sys/kernel/hostname)
ping: bad address 'dlink-4cdba7'
root@dlink-4cdba7:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Interface lan
nameserver 10.80.0.2
# Interface mgmt
nameserver 10.8.0.2

I am looking for a way to configure the "domain" option:

root@dlink-4cdba7:~# cat /etc/resolv.conf
domain mgmt.pvl
# Interface lan
nameserver 10.80.0.2
# Interface mgmt
nameserver 10.8.0.2
root@dlink-4cdba7:~# ping $(cat /proc/sys/kernel/hostname)
PING dlink-4cdba7 (10.8.9.3): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 10.8.9.3: seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.215 ms

As a workaround, it seems I can set my hostname to the FQDN:

root@dlink-4cdba7:~# echo dlink-4cdba7.mgmt.pvl > /proc/sys/kernel/hostname
root@dlink-4cdba7:~# ping $(cat /proc/sys/kernel/hostname)
PING dlink-4cdba7.mgmt.pvl (10.8.9.3): 56 data bytes

Which also lets me ping the plain hostnames without any "domain" configured in /etc/resolv.conf
