USB port problem with Huawei HG556a REV A

Hardware Huawei HG556a Rev A
Trunk version r39596

Issue detail:
HG556a have 3 phy USB2.0 ports.
1x internal, 2x onboard-hub SMSC USB2502-AEZG.

When the AA 12.09 released, it's not official supported. Someone post a backport version on the offical wiki page.(http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/huawei/hg556a)

Within that zip archive, there is a patch (attached below). It makes usb works perfect on OPENWRT. All the 3 ports works perfect.

But the latest trunk version don't. Neither the latest trunk build on downloads.openwrt.org nor my own build version don't works perfect:

With the trunk version, the interal USB port works, but only in USB1.1 mode. If plug in a USB2.0-only device, it will crash.

The other 2 ports which is on the onboard hub don't work at all. I tried USB1.1 device and USB 2.0 device.
The lsusb cannot show this hub.

Hi there!

Same hardware and same problem here. I tried lot of things but ... got nothing.

Please, can you double check if the usb hub chip is "SMSC USB2502-AEZG" really? It's because if you read this router wiki, it says that but ... if, in my case, open the router and check the chip, is a Genesys GL850G.

Maybe this is something to take in mind?

Anyway, I can test all you want: I can compile without problems over my Debian box, and check over one HG556A Ver.A (Ralink) and over one HG553 (usb is failing too)

The only difference in the patch that I can see is that it removes the hardcoded num_ports.

This should be fixed with r39680 by setting the appropirate num ports for HW556, please check if it now works.

I have a Vodafone HG556a HW.C router here and the side USB port was working fine until I rebuild the Barrier Breaker firmware for it. At first, the USB port was working on BB (14.07, r42625) but after I reflash the router repeatedly with usb sound card connected at the side USB port, this side USB port stopped working. The USB port besides the ethernet ports are not working too.

I have also tried to reflash it to factory firmware and these two USB ports do not detect anything either... However, I can clearly see the port is powered as my USB drive led turns on but it does not get detected.

The USB port at the back for the USB 3G is working fine though.
Does this means the two not working USB ports are physically dead forever? or this is a software problem and can be fixed somehow?
