#15008 new defect

mtd write fails to erase block [sysupgrade bricks router]

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: highest Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

This happens almost every second time or randomly. At times, it flashes clean after erasing all blocks; otherwise it ends up like below -- wiping out the image and bricking the router. I have marked it as highest priority because I need to get to the serial to recover it.

My system is a bcm47xx and e3000 v1 router. Please let me know if you need more details. Thanks!

Does dmesg says something about this error in erase block? I had error in erase block when it was partial partition not starting on erase block boundary. I submited a kernel patch that fixes this (in kernel 3.3). https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2014-June/026110.html
