#14909 new defect

p910nd - Printer server doesnt start at boot anymore

Reported by: dustbowl@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

Since a few trunk versions, dont know when it happened, p910nd doesnt start correctly anymore at boot time:

Tue Feb 4 02:29:43 2014 lpr.err p9100d[1207]: bind: Cannot assign requested address
Tue Feb 4 02:29:43 2014 lpr.err p9100d[1207]: accept: Bad file descriptor

It seems it looks for /dev/usb/lp0 which isnt there at boot time of course, because the printer isn't turned on always.

It worked before though. Dont know if anything was changed on the init.d script, the lp binding, or p910nd itself, causing this.

My config:

config p910nd

option device '/dev/usb/lp0'
option port '0'
option bidirectional '1'
option enabled '1'
option bind '10.0.0.201'

Taking credit for my friend Timur: starting by hand issuing '/etc/init.d/p910nd start' works so until a proper solution arises adding the following lines to rc.local may do the trick (does for me anyway):

# fine tune wait time to your needs
sleep 10
/etc/init.d/p910nd start

At least for me, as of an August BB build, this issue continues. Is there any further news on this?

This issue continues in BB14.07-rc3. Hope it will be fixed.

does it work, when you remove the option 'bind'? for me it is working.

I don't seem to have this issue anymore as of a BB build from late last year, somewhere in the 43xxx's (not sure which one specifically did it). I'm on 44162 at the moment (https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=47382). I never did try the 'bind' workaround, and I'm not sure if it working now is a result of a deliberate fix or just an accident.

I can confirm the issue with 14.07, and can also confirm the workaround (removing the bind option). Thanks!

This issue is still in the CHAOS CALMER (15.05-rc3, r46163)

The issue is still present in Chaos Calmer 15.05 final, on a MR3020 portable router.
