#14291 new defect

Weird interface RX bytes value

Reported by: k@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

In trunk r38305 I have noticed a strange ocurrence -- the RX bytes counter in one of the L2TP tunnel interfaces has started reporting a huge value that can't possibly be right:

digger1   Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 8E:7C:78:C2:7A:4A
          inet addr:  Bcast:  Mask:
          inet6 addr: fe80::8c7c:78ff:fec2:7a4a/64 Scope:Link
          RX packets:2581490 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1536826 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:18446744071890814146 (16777215.9 TiB)  TX bytes:440387038 (419.9 MiB)

All other interfaces are fine and only RX bytes have been affected. This can't possibly be the real traffic transferred as this value represents 20% of monthly worldwide internet traffic ;-) Also the value seems suspiciously close to the 264 boundary.
