#14276 new defect

procd doesn't allow to use switch_root in current trunk

Reported by: wzab66 Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I'm building a system which uses kexec to load the final kernel from the USB disk, and should also mount the root file system from this USB disk.
To achieve that the kernel is started with initramfs, and should later use switch_root to switch the rootfs to mounted filesystem.

Unfortunately this is not possible, as switch_root must be run with PID=1, while the process with PID=1 is procd, which spawns all other init processes and scripts as it's children.
So the only option to correctly execute switch_root, would be to execute it (without fork) from the procd.

This affects me too.
As far as I can see, in renders boot from anything other than MTD impossible. Please fix.
