        Device supports AP scan.
root@Xiaofu-Router:~# iwlist wlan1 scan
wlan1 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down

root@Xiaofu-Router:~# ifconfig wlan1 up

Then it frozed with nothing output. The load of the router kept increasing fastly.
P.S. The rtl8187l usb wireless card works fine on the Attitude Adjustment 12.09.
Is there anything I can do to give a deeper test?

I am having a similar issue with 12.09/r36088 on a ar71xx TP-Link WR-703N.

running 'wifi' it says:

Configuration file: /var/run/hostapd-phy1.conf
nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan1 into AP mode
nl80211 driver initialization failed.
Failed to start hostapd for phy1

and like above, the output of 'iw list' doesn't include AP mode:

Supported interface modes:
		 * IBSS
		 * managed
		 * monitor
software interface modes (can always be added):
		 * monitor

I used to be able to use my RTL8187-based dongle. lsusb:

phip, your issue is not similar. rtl8187 is too crappy to work as an AP.
as for the original report, please try latest trunk to see if it works better.

sorry for the no_response, I didn't receive any emails to inform me the reply.
The problem didn't make any change on the latest trunk. the RTL8187 works well on AA, but it can't work on trunk.

update information:

with the kernel 3.10.4, this bug has a little change:

root@Xiaofu-Router:~# ifconfig wlan0 up
root@Xiaofu-Router:~# iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:off/any

Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=27 dBm
RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off

root@Xiaofu-Router:~# wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -dd -Dnl80211 -c /etc/config/brother.conf
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
wlan0: SME: Trying to authenticate with a8:15:4d:af:c5:5c (SSID='brother' freq=2412 MHz)
wlan0: Trying to associate with a8:15:4d:af:c5:5c (SSID='brother' freq=2412 MHz)

Then the router automatically reboot.
