Git error running on an NSLU2

Description

I have git installed on a target, an NSLU2 running a very recent trunk build. I get an odd error message when trying to do a git commit -- git fails with an assertion violation. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that OpenWrt runs in big-endian mode?

Here is a sample where I've cloned a repository and made a single change to a Makefile:

root@OpenWRT:/tmp/openwrt-await# uname -a
Linux OpenWRT 3.3.8 #1 Sun May 26 14:53:58 IST 2013 armv5teb GNU/Linux
root@OpenWRT:/tmp/openwrt-await# git --version
git version 1.7.11.2
root@OpenWRT:/tmp/openwrt-await# git status
# On branch master
# Changes not staged for commit:
# (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed)
# (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory)
#
#	modified: Makefile
#
no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a")
root@OpenWRT:/tmp/openwrt-await# git add .
root@OpenWRT:/tmp/openwrt-await# git commit -m "sample addition from NSLU2"
[master 99e988c] sample addition from NSLU2
git: xdiff/xutils.c: 345: xdl_hash_record: Assertion `*ptr == '\n'' failed.

I just encountered the same problem on Barrier Breaker r34389 on a TL-WR703N; received exactly the same error message. No workaround so far.

Is TL-WR703N big-endian?

I take it this will not be backported to Attitude Adjustment? I'm also seeing this on the Atheros version.
