WNDR3700v2 - No Full duplex WAN speed

Reported by: pbm2 Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I have 100/100 fibre internet (with 100Mbit FTU) and found out my upload is capped when downloading at max speed (11 MB/s)

The problem lies with OpenWRT.

With the stock Netgear Firmware the speed is correct (11 MB/s up and down at the same time)

I also measured WAN-LAN throughput with 1 PC connected to the Router's WAN port and 1 PC connected to the Router's LAN port. See the screenshots below:

There's also a problem with the Router's WAN LED:
With OpenWRT the led is orange when operating at 1000Mbps (incorrect)
With Netgear the led is green when operating at 1000Mbps (correct)

Which exact version you are running Openwrt? AA rc2? some old AA version?
Are you running QoS? If yes, with which settings/limits?

The LED color difference has been known for a long time. Openwrt uses a separate control for that LED, and that toggle has not been automated. You might test the hotplug script that I wrote a last year: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=153850#p153850

I was running Backfire 10.03.1 at the time I found out my WAN speed was wrong. Resetting to factory settings didn't helped. After this I upgraded to Attitude Adjustment 12.09-rc1. Still the same problem. I didn't installed the QoS package.

Yesterday I decided to do some WAN-LAN throughput tests with the original Netgear stock Firmware and the newest OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment 12.09-rc2:

I first flashed back the original Netgear stock Firmware with TFTP (https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=103295#p103295), did the WAN-LAN throughput tests (screenshot 1 and 2) and then upgraded to OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment 12.09-rc2, did the same tests again (screenshot 3 and 4).

About the wrong LED color: I thought this was patched in Backfire branche? See: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=198584#p198584. Note that I only have the wrong color with the WAN LED. All LAN leds are green when operating at 1000Mbps.

That patch only affected the LAN LED config, which is controlled by the switch. Like I said, the WAN LED is controlled separately with and no automatic logic has been built-in so far.

The actual changeset contains the correct explanation about it touching only LAN LEDs.

Ah, Ok. Thanks for pointing out.

Then it's only the WAN speed problem that remains.

I can confirm the WAN speed problem also exists in the newest OpenWrt Barrier Breaker r36384

Please tell me if I can provide any help with testing new builds that fixes the problem.

Problem is also with CeroWRT and Gargoyle (both OpenWRT based).

With Gargoyle I have tested build 1.3.13 of of 31 march 2011. It was the first build that had support for WNDR3700v2. The WAN speed is also wrong with this build.

Still don't know if this is a global OpenWRT issue or only applies to this router (rtl8366s driver problem?)

I have the same issue on WNDR3800 on both trunk and AA based gargoyle.
Go back to buffalo g300nh with half the cpu speed and no issues!
