Description

Hello,

after a lot of trouble I found out all interfaces are using the same mac address, ifconfig shows:

Switching the device to a new mac address or different dhcp range on lan makes it unreachable.

I tried the guide
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd#change.mac.address
but hexdump shows something else:

hexdump -n 6 -s 130048 -e '"%06.6_ax " 5/1 "%02X:" 1/1 "%02X""\n"' /tmp/uboot.org
01fc00 90:F6:52:F2:6C:5E

Now I don't know - is it a bug or is it a feature, how could it be changed/fixed?

As you'll find out also here

https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=42171

the dhcp issues with this device
are not fixed, as soon as you turn on dhcp openwrt becomes
unreachable and you can only get back in failsafe mode.

  • Priority changed from normal to response-needed

That forum thread does not contain useful information. What exactly did you do to make it unreachable?

I changed the lan interface from static to dhcp on luci/interfaces,
after switching to dhcp the router becomes inaccessible.
On another attempt I switched to dhpc changing the file /etc/config/network ...

Anyway it does not offer an IP nor respond on 192.168.1.1 via telnet,
webpanel (luci) or ssh. Only failsafe works!

Before I used the WR1043ND and it was no problem to enable
dhcp. So it appears to be be specific a problem with the WDR4300.

Could it depend on the similar mac adresses?

  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

Uhm, that just means the the router will act as DHCP client on lan, so you have to provide it with DHCP, of course it will have no ip anymore after that. Still doesn't look like a bug to me, just a simple misconfiguration.

Identical mac addresses are totally unrelated to that.
