#13289 new defect

grub does not compile if user group have spaces (winbind AD group)

Reported by: luizluca@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Attitude Adjustment 12.09 Beta
Keywords: Cc:

My user has a group with space: "Domain users". This is from an AD, using samba winbind intregration.

-rw------- 1 luizluca domain users 8634459 Apr 3 20:16 /home/luizluca/.xsession-errors

This extra space breaks grub compilation. At some point, grub checks for a file size using "ls -l", and getting the 5th field. As group field has a space, it counts as two and the size is misread. I.e:

   set dummy `ls -l $^`; \
   echo "#define DISKLESS_SIZE $$6" > $@

I wrote a patch that uses stat command, more robust, to read file size. This problem affects all openwrt versions that contains grub like backfire, attitude adjustment and trunk.

BTW, grub legacy is not accepting bugs and patches upstream.
