#13242 new defect

Samba sharing root's home folder by default

Reported by: cavalierrant+openwrt@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk

by default home folder sharing is set up being writeable, without requiring valid user login.

in "/etc/init.d/samba", when creating the new config file for samba:

        local homes
        config_get_bool homes $1 homes 0
        [ $homes -gt 0 ] && {
                cat <<EOT >> /var/etc/smb.conf

        comment     = Home Directories
        browsable   = no
        read only   = no
        create mode = 0750

sharing users' home folders is depending upon the 'homes' variable in the "/etc/config/samba" file, which is on by default:

        option 'homes''1'

I would recommend adding

        valid users = %S

to /etc/init.d/samba under [homes], as it would require users (also root) to enter their password to access their respective home folders
