kernel pptp module freezes system when server not available

Reported by: vde@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

there is tplink 1043nd with openwrt (versions I tried was backfire, Attitude Adjustment and trunk both images and self-compiled). For initial setup router connected only to LAN (and serial), and after PPTP setup it start to reboot periodically and eventually freezes. PPPoE works fine but I needs multiwan and both PPTP and PPPoE! But in case of PPTP prov (reserve) failure router kills himself.

On TOP's output it looks as (screenshot)

My mistake - pppoe with missing server freezes router too! Even without multiwan. But it takes more time...

Yes! it DEFINITLY NOT "process-storm" via hotplug, it is some kernel-dependent bug!

Testcase: one window with "top" with period 3s, and little script

while /bin/true
do

ps -w
sleep 3

done

  • in another window. After die i see last shots (2 screenshots follows)
