#13096 new defect

Wifi configuration broken on OM2P

Reported by: stefan@… Owned by:
Priority: response-needed Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: luci Version: Trunk
Keywords: om2p ar71xx Cc:

Description

I've been successfully using the latest trunk of Barrier Breaker on a couple of OM2P nodes for a while, installed as described on http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/openmesh/om2p

Since I'd rather be using a stable release in the foreseeable future I decided to try Attitude Adjustment instead. While this seems to work in general, the Wifi doesn't: with Barrier Breaker I correctly get one "Atheros AR9285 802.11bgn" interface in LuCI, with Attitude Adjustment I get that plus another "Generic 802.11 Wireless Controller". The latter doesn't show any networks when I click on "scan", the former does but it can't seem to connect.

If I use the command line I only see one physical device (phy0). After trying to connect through LuCI "iw dev wlan0 info" says "command failed: No such device (-19)", i.e. it seems that no logical interface is created.

Manually connecting from the command line (iw interface add, wpa_supplicant and udhcpc) seems to work just fine so to me it would appear that it's an issue with the LuCI front-end.

You can find the output from dmesg attached to this report. If you have any suggestions / patches to try, please let me know.

  • Priority changed from normal to response-needed

Sounds to me like you just retored an old incompatible wifi config which caused OpenWrt to create another wifi-device section in the config. Please flash a normal image without keeping configuration and attach the generated /etc/config/wireless after the first boot.

Hmm indeed, that's a little embarrassing :) Seems I had some wifi configuration files that I'd forgotten about. This fixes the issue with the second interface showing up.

However, I still can't seem to connect to the wireless network through LuCI, same issue as before.

Please attach the network and wireless configurations you use to setup the wifi.

Well the wireless is disabled, so obviously you cannot connect to it.
What exactly is the problem now?

/etc/config/network

The problem is that LuCI seems to think that wifi is enabled. Indeed manually disabling and re-enabling helped.

Where does it think that? I cannot reproduce that behaviour here.

It said so on the wireless overview page and when configuring the wifi interface, all the buttons said "disable". I'll try to go through it step-by-step tomorrow again and keep track of all the screens I get. Thanks a lot for the fast answers!
