Wash (part of Reaver) works when WNDR3700 does reboot but not after AP has connected elsewhere......

I have three WNDR3700 routers that I've been playing around with for a while.

As part of my learning experience I've been doing custom builds from Trunk to get myself more familiar with what is and isn't possible on the router.

I just did a new build based on BB Trunk R35758 which has an auto install of extroot now.

As part of my playing around I have occasionally tried Wash (part of Reaver) to scan for local networks and then capture the output into a text file.

Previously I've been able to do a Wash scan, delete the monitor mode interface, connect to other routers in client mode, setup router as an AP, then delete the interface and recreate a new monitor mode on 2.4Ghz then use Wash to do a new scan.

However on the latest build I can do a Wash scan if I do it immediately after a boot, however once wlan0 has been used for either client mode or AP mode it will not do a successful Wash scan again, doesn't matter if I delete the interface and recreate it numerous times. Once wlan0 has been used for anything other then monitor mode then Wash will not run again.

For the avoidance of confusion my methodology for running wash has been...

Delete existing (if any) 2.4Ghz wlan0 interface through luci.

Create new monitor mode interface in 2.4Ghz wlan0 through luci.

Use airmon-ng from CLI to create new mon0 based on wlan0

execute....

wash -i mon0

As I said prior builds never had a problem, so my guess is there's some values not getting reset in wlan0 somewhere when it's deleted and re-created.

Nothing in dmesg to show any issues.

Sorry not fixed, did new build tonight from r35802 and problem still exists.

Did you try running wifi down and creating the monitor interface using iw instead of airmon-ng?

And there it will sit and detect nothing no matter how long I leave it for....

If I execute the same command immediately after a boot I'll detect 10+ networks within 60 seconds and 20+ within 5 minutes.

As I get the same problem on all three routers I'm pretty certain we can exclude a hardware failure.

I was playing around testing some other stuff and just found out that airodump-ng won't run after the unit has been connected in either client mode or AP mode either.

Same as before....

Immediately after boot airodump-ng works when wlan0 is in monitor mode.

Use wlan0 to connect in client mode or AP mode.

Remove wlan0 setup and create new mon0 monitor mode on wlan0.

Execute

airodump-ng -u 5 mon0

I can watch the top left changing channels but no networks are detected.

Sorry still not fixed.

I compiled from -r35847 on Sunday morning and installed.....

Problem still manifests exactly as previously.

yes, and then load ath9k with debug=1 to see the power state changes
