#13031 closed defect (wontfix)

opkg broken after package installation an low space

Reported by: Freier Radikaler Owned by: developers
Priority: highest Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Attitude Adjustment 12.09 Beta
Keywords: opkg destroy Cc:

The opkg package list file gets corrupted, if a new package gets installed and the left space on root partiton is no sufficient. While rewriting the opkg package file and the no space left on device error occures the file won't be written completely so opkg don't know anymore all installed packages. Just a few that got written are there followed by an error because the rest is missing. That's a very heavy bug! It just destroyed the work of 2 weeks...

It is unlikely that this will ever get fixed as it is not possible to reliably check the required and remaining space in advance due to transparent compression effects.

You can follow to attempt to recover from this.

One easy way to fix this would be to reserve some space for the "installed package" file, so at least this one can be written. If the error occurs you can delete the packages that failed to install an the system remain consistent. Is this possible?
