/etc/hotplug2-common.rules r32711 is broken

Reported by: kurapica@… Owned by: developers

Description

Hi developers,

I recently flashed my WNDR3700v2 with 12.09rc1 release.

Soon I noticed that hotplug2 is not working properly.

I've changed the log in hotplug2-common.rules to

exec logger -s -t hotplug -p daemon.info "name=%DEVNAME%, path=%DEVPATH%, name2=%DEVICENAME%"

And the log shows:

Feb 4 02:10:08 OpenWrt daemon.info hotplug: name=ttyS5, path=/devices/platform/serial8250/tty/ttyS5, name2=ttyS5
Feb 4 02:10:08 OpenWrt daemon.info hotplug: name=ttyS6, path=/devices/platform/serial8250/tty/ttyS6, name2=ttyS6
......
Feb 4 02:10:14 OpenWrt daemon.info hotplug: name=%DEVNAME%, path=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:11.0/ieee80211/phy0, name2=phy0
Feb 4 02:10:14 OpenWrt daemon.info hotplug: name=%DEVNAME%, path=/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:12.0/ieee80211/phy1, name2=phy1

It shows that %DEVNAME% cannot get all device names, but %DEVICENAME% is ok.

@jow has a private patch at http://luci.subsignal.org/~jow/nprove/0010-revert-hotplug-rules-to-old-format-due-to-kernel-com.patch and I don't know why this patch is not applied to OpenWRT.

This bug causes the command "ip tuntap add" failed to add a device node at "/dev/net/". Maybe lot of other troubles I haven't met.

I reverted the rules file to previous version, problem not resolved.

I checked "/sys/devices/virtual/net/tap0/uevent" file and found no major/minor in it. So there's no enough infomation to create a node.

Still wondering why.

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

It's not supposed to add a node at /dev/net when calling ip tuntap add. No extra device is registered in the kernel code, so the behavior seems correct to me.
