I don't see how that patch could be causing such issues, please be more specific. Did you change/deselect anything in your configuration or in the kernel patches?

The patch is correct. It's supposed to run /etc/preinit. If that doesn't work on your board for some reason, it is probably a configuration or build issue. You need to provide more details.
