#12925 new defect

HWaddr 12:9C:E1:21:C9:8E

Reported by: christoph@… Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version: Attitude Adjustment 12.09 Beta
Keywords: Cc:

Description

My Ubiquiti LS–SR71 boards showw all the same faked MAC address of "12:9C:E1:21:C9:8E".

As I can see in numerous dmesg outputs on the internet, this behaviour is not limited to my hardware, but occurs on several platforms.

This happens in all recent versions of Openwrt (AA, Trunk tested).

Dmesg says: "[ 0.380000] ar71xx: using random MAC address for eth0", but this address is not random at all.

The board uses Redboot.

Regards, Christoph

Might be an effect of lack of entropy/randomness during the boot...

This should not happen at all, why isn't the real MAC address of the interface used?

Replying to anonymous:

I can confirm this now. Adding randomness (serial console attached) causes the address to change. I still think that the correct address should be detected instead. The manufacturer's Linux based firmware obviously gets that from somewhere.

Have you noticed this discussion? Looks like the problem is not a new one.
