#1279 closed defect (fixed)

128-bit WEP instability issue w/ brcm-2.4 (kamikaze)

Reported by: wmason@… Owned by: nbd
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version:
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I am running kamikaze with mssid/vif support(brcm-2.4). When running one of the ssid's with 128-bit WEP under a heavy load, the AP's wireless will drop. (signal strength drops to nearly nothing, it actually seems to cycle from good signal to none) I have verified the problems exists on several AP's, and should be easily reproduced. I do not have this problem with 64-bit WEP, PSK, PSK2, WPA, or WPA2. I do not have this problem with RC6. I am testing on a WRT54GSv2, but have tested with other hardware revisions. No related log meassages appear in dmesg.

I just tried using dd-wrt v24 beta firmware to see if this issue exists in his firmware. Yes, I see the same issue with 128-bit WEP using v24 firmware, but not v23 SP2. I believe this issue is related to the new broadcom-wl driver. Please confirm.

I am generating a wireless load by streaming mpeg2 with a high video bitrate. I tried scp'ing files around with the same outcome.

We probably need an upstream wireless driver update to fix this.
