#12774 assigned defect

downloading a lot of data from the KVM virtual machine produce a kernel bug (3.6.11/brcm47xx)

Reported by: mikhail.kshevetskiy@… Owned by: hauke
Priority: high Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: kernel panic: fatal exception in interrupt Cc:

Description (last modified by florian)

I use Barrier Breaker r35047 on asus wl-500gP v1.

the bug appeared in the following situation (reproduced several time)

1) i use 64-bit debian testing with kernel from debian experimental (linux-3.7.1)

   kl@weasel:~$ uname -a
   Linux weasel 3.7-trunk-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.7.1-1~experimental.2 x86_64 GNU/Linux

2) i start KVM virtual machine (qemu-kvm=1.1.2+dfsg-3) with another debian testing

working in it.

   sudo kvm -hda /dev/sdc -m 1024 -localtime

linux-3.6.9 were used under emulation.

3) under virtual machine i start OS update

   aptitude update
   aptitude dist-upgrade

the following debian mirror were used http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/
and it tries to download about 100Mb of data from it.

4) several seconds later the router goes to reboot

I repeat step 3 several time with the same result.

WARNING: The bug is not reproduced outside the virtual machine

I can confirm this issue also on Asus 500 gp. When WAN throughput is large (~ 20Mbites/s) router reset with similar reason.

Investigations show, that the problem does not related to qemu/kvm specifics.
The problem appear on any high speed downloading (tested with wifi and ethernet connections)

sorry for initial reports. I try the latest shapshot during a week and report if the problem still exist.
