Putting new build (r35016) for TL-WR1043ND on my router gives me suddenly repeating message in dmesg:

searching on internet I have found reference on RedHat forums here:

Which says it might be related to NetworkManager, but the last comment 91:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785772#c91

says, it could also be related to SLAAC. But I do not know, what to change in openwrt. Previous build (with same configuration) from r34584 did not expose such behavior.

I think you shouldn't run radvd and 6relayd concurrently, they will trip over each other...

It seems that something is wrong with your network setup.
E.g. "IPv6: eth0.2: IPv6 duplicate address 2a01:x:y:z::1 detected!" might be a hint.

Can you please explain what your setup is and what you are trying to do?
Is there a reason you use radvd? Could you simply try enabling the RD or DHCPv6-relay as well or if that is not what you want set option rd 'server' and option dhcpv6 'server' in your config relay-section and disable radvd.

Also please check your network setup especially what could cause the address duplication error.

Also please check the values for accept_ra and forwarding for both your wan and lan-interfaces under /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/INTERFACENAME/...

They should be both 2 for the wan-interface and both 1 for the lan interface.

i forgot my logs. and due to this error/bug the ipv6 from my isp doesnt work out-of-the-box :(.

I've pushed a major update to the IPv6-support to trunk yesterday.

in r35181 too, with a tp-link wr1043nd (wide-dhcp6c/s + radvd with a pppoe connection).

My provider uses PPPoE and for IPv6 support either manual or dhcpv6 will do.

At the same time I see "ICMPv6: RA: ndisc_router_discovery failed to add default route", tcpdump will spit out the following from pppoe-wan interface:

The interface will not allow itself to be configured by RA (with SLAAC address). It also seems ipv6 traffic flow is halted briefly whenever this happens (for me atleast - ipv6 connection stalling for a second or two circa every 3 minutes).

sysctl shows net.ipv6.conf.pppoe-wan.accept_ra = 2. same with br-lan. Not sure of the difference between '1' and '2' here, but shouldn't it be '0', atleast on pppoe-wan?

fixed the error messages for me.

if you try this, replace pppoe-wan with the correct ifname if it's something else.

i added:

net.ipv6.conf.pppoe-wan.accept_ra=0

to /etc/sysctl.conf, restarted and i still have:

ICMPv6: RA: ndisc_router_discovery failed to add default route

via dmesg..

yes, it turns out ifup/down scripts will just reset it to '1' or '2'. so it wont work on boot/reboot. it needs to be manually set after scripts have setup the connection.

check it's value with: sysctl net.ipv6.conf.pppoe-wan.accept_ra

and set it manually to 0 with: sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.pppoe-wan.accept_ra=0

Found and fixed the issue.
I just pushed 3 new commits which fix the following issues:

  • select the correct interface when doing DHCPv6 over PPP
  • fix "ICMPv6: RA: ndisc_router_discovery failed to add default route"-issue
  • fix dhcpv6 client using all-zero MAC over PPP interfaces

I tested this with a local pppoe-testserver so it should now hopefully work as expected.
It should now not be necessary to use radvd or wide-dhcpv6-client for prefix delegation to work correctly.

This is not working when the PPP server doesn't send an RA but only accept DHCPv6. Some provider does like this, say NTT.
Maybe we need to decide if we need to configure default route from $LLREMOTE address, or use RA. Or at least adding an option to this in uci network/ppp config.

Well in this case tell your provider to fix their setup. In contrast to DHCPv4 DHCPv6 doesn't have any fields to transmit a default router or any sort of other routes.

If you can't fix the mental insanity of your ISP we have a workaround in trunk for this, see r42803.
