Selecting kmod-usb2 breaks non-generic platform EHCI support, e.g. on Kirkwood

Reported by: fercerpav@… Owned by: florian
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

With CONFIG_PACKAGE_kmod-usb2=y the generated kernel config has CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD_PLATFORM=y which prevents other EHCI platform drivers from getting registered (e.g. orion-ehci which is activated with PLAT_ORION=y). This happens because PLATFORM_DRIVER in drivers/usb/host/ehci-hcd.c is getting redefined with the generic platform glue if it's enabled.

This will be changed with upstream kernel commit 99f91934a907df31ba878dfdd090002049dc476a which splits out the support for the generic glue but until that OpenWrt should probably take some measures to prevent the conflicting definitions.

I've run into this both with ehci-cns3xxx and ehci-ixp4xx HCD's as well. Perhaps the patch you refer to should be backported to kernels <3.7 or a change should be made to target/linux/generic/patches-3.3/082-USB-EHCI-Add-a-generic-platform-device-driver.patch to work around this for specific targets.

Alternatively maybe there is something that can be done in package/kernel/modules/ that splits out CONFIG_USB_EHCI_HCD_PLATFORM into a config option for the usb2 package that can be selected if your target is not in a blacklist
