#12646 closed defect (worksforme)

opkg - segmentation fault

Reported by: ron.laws86@… Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

opkg throws up segmentation fault on a frequent basis.

one example

root@OpenWrt:~# opkg install lighttpd
Installing lighttpd (1.4.30-2) to root...
Downloading http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/lantiq/packages/lighttpd_1.4.30-2_lantiq.ipk.
Multiple packages (libpthread and libpthread) providing same name marked HOLD or PREFER. Using latest.
Segmentation fault

Also happens with Apache, asterisk and a number of other packages.

results in the whole router needing a cold reset, as it appears to affect the entire system and processes start to hang including shutdown.

  • Priority changed from high to low

Sounds like an out-of-memory condition, probably not an opkg issue.

If your router has USB, connect a USB stick or USB harddrive and create and use a swapfile on it, if possible.
Or: Try to kill as much processes as possible, then run opkg and then reboot (to start the killed processes again).
