I'm seeing the reboots on my Easybox 802 too (heavily custimized image, self built toolchain, didn't have time to strip it down yet). (Last tested on trunk, 2013-01-13.)
I've tried serial console and booted into failsafe mode which works just fine.
Mounting rootfs, loading all modules and starting all services (/etc/rc.d/*) from failsafe worked fine too.

What's curious (for me at least) is that this happens:

  • on factory defaults (jffs not initialized)
  • on customized jffs

equally and *always* happens to be a "hard reset", no oops or anything like it.
Also, depending on enabled startup scripts, the timing (and messages) are slightly different.

So I suspect it's more like something seriously wrong with the kernel (unlikely, since failsafe works), a watchdog reset or a wrong gpio pin set?
Disabling some boot services (including watchdog) did not help at all, so I'm guessing it's not in the software or the watchdog, more like a timing issue or gpio?

I've done some experiments in the past with the gpio pins of the box since i wanted to find some unused ones and *some* pins reset the box hard, when set to output and enabled - hence my guess.
Also, the LED-assignment of the box was (last time i got it running) was wrong, seems like it was copied from ARV752DPW22 (Easybox A803).

I hope this helps diagnosing this a bit further, I'm not sure how to proceed debugging this.

I'd like to disable the led/gpio code alltogether to confirm my suspicion, but I don't have access to the box ATM and also I'm not sure how to do it anyway.

If someone has a suggestion I'd love to try poking around some more - next possible attempt is in about one week.

I am getting this "resets" on my Easybox 802 too, latest trunk, 35409.

just compiled the standard config without any special configuration.
with squashfs and jffs as FileSystems.

The box booted last year without problems, but i dont get the right revision again.

The problem is ./package/base-files/files/etc/hotplug2-init.rules:

SUBSYSTEM == button {
    exec kill -USR1 1
}

which in the case of ARV752DPW directly fires at startup. If you remove it, everything runs fine.

It should not fire, though, as the debug output from hotplug does not show any devices with SUBSYSTEM button:

It seems like one gpio is reported as being pressed directly after its recognition. Therefore, a problem with the gpio driver seems most likely.
