Description

Hello, i have tried at the beginning of 10.2012 the trunk and also once again from today. Wireless do not work in any kind.
I copy the most important data to the end of this bugreport.

Problems:

  1. Only one interface with 2.4Ghz is listed.The router have 2.4ghz and 5ghz inside.
  2. This one interface have the problem, that when i run a scan, then it dont report anything. No wireless devices have been find.
  3. When i turn on the interface, in dont work - it cant be find by other devices.

With r34398 the same problem. Now it is not using kernel 3.3.8 as default and uses instead the 3.6.7, but this dont make any change. Still no wireless.

For the RT-N56U problem it seems like the problem is deeper. I build now 7 different old versions and none of them worked. None singnal goes out of the device. No ssid, no scanning possible (scan results always = 0).
I dont know why a person in the forum is reporting that it were working ( https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=37606 )

The r31399 change-version from juhosg also did not work.

Dear all,
I also use an ASUS RT-N56U router, and also has exactly the same problem. WIFI is not working. Only one interface with 2.4Ghz is listed.The router have 2.4ghz and 5ghz inside. How the some one help to fix it.

First you have to reverse this:

/changeset/30632.html

But for me that did not help. Without changing it back, it would never work. Also not, when the driver were working.

We could report the bug to compat-drivers. Maybe it's an upstream bug. But maybe it's also already fixed there and we have to wait until nbd (the dev for compat-drivers) update the package.

Hi, the latest trunk version has used the latest compat-drivers built in Dec. It the problem is not fixed at all.

It cant be fixed at the moment from the part of OpenWRT, because the Ralink Wireless driver just did not support this device. We have to write to the ralink mailing list and ask for help.

I don't think so. ASUS firmware for RT-N56U is a open source software which can be downloaded from here:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-N56U
Obviously their driver support this device perfectly; so maybe you can use the wireless driver used by ASUS firmware.
It is easy to intergrate the driver to OpenWRT firmware.

Just compiled "OpenWrt Barrier Breaker r35995" and Wifi still does not work. wlan0 is up but it does not send anything.

The driver is binary in rt-n56u, with 2 kernels available: 3.0 and 3.4, but it could be binary with a compilable part like nvidia. Need to check that. Sucks, but it looks like openwrt won't be fully functional on n56u ever.

I've tested trunk @r42250: working 2.4 ap mode, working 5 ghz sta mode.

  • AP doesn't work on 5ghz when regdomain set, dfs free channels are working

And phy1 (5ghz) is reporting 2.4ghz capability. patch send to dev ml.
