#12156 new defect

DIR-601 A1 showing up as a DIR-600 A1 in Attitude Adjustment

Reported by: Aaron Z <aczlan+openwrt@…> Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: Attitude Adjustment 12.09 Beta
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I just flashed my DIR-601 A1 from the stock firmware to Attitude Adjustment(1) via the "d-link web interface" as described in the instructions (2).

The first time I tried, the WAN port wouldn't work (said that nothing was connected).

I re-flashed the same image and it works (or has for the last 20 minutes), but it says that it is on a "D-Link DIR-600 rev. A1" not a "D-Link DIR-601 rev. A1"

Not sure if this is a problem or not, but it says on the wiki that the 601 has the "Atheros AR7240 SoC version 2" chip rather than the "Atheros AR7240" chip (3) so I thought I would open a ticket.

I have not tried trunk as there isn't an image there for this platform (from what I have been told, turning on debug flags makes the image too big) and I am not setup to compile an image myself.

dmesg has the processor detected properly:

[ 0.000000] SoC: Atheros AR7240 rev 2

I can confirm the 12.09beta2 image builder produces images with this /proc/cmdline:

board=DIR-600-A1 console=ttyS0,115200 mtdparts=spi0.0:192k(u-boot)ro,64k(nvram)ro,960k(kernel),2752k(rootfs),64k(mac)ro,64k(art)ro,3712k@0x40000(firmware) rootfstype=squashfs,jffs2 noinitrd

I believe this might be a result of OpenWrt-ImageBuilder-ar71xx_generic-for-linux-i486/target/linux/ar71xx/image/Makefile which contains

$(eval $(call SingleProfile,Cameo7240,$(fs_64k),DIR600A1,dir-600-a1,DIR-600-A1,ttyS0,115200,"AP91-AR7240-RT-090223-00"))
$(eval $(call SingleProfile,Cameo7240,$(fs_64k),DIR601A1,dir-601-a1,DIR-600-A1,ttyS0,115200,"AP91-AR7240-RT-090223-02"))

At this point in the release cycle the easiest thing to do might be to document that /proc/cpuinfo has
machine : D-Link DIR-600 rev. A1
and not mess with the kernel and scripts.
