#12141 closed defect (fixed)

Alex 3d3 not booting.

Reported by: John Schultz <jschultz0614@…> Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: other Version: Trunk
Keywords: Grub, boot loader Cc:

Description

I currently have the following hardware: Alex 3D3, 4gb SanDisk CF Card, 2 Wistron DNMA-92 radios.

Ive compiled the trunk version several times and have DD'd the combined image several times to the cf card from a different linux system.

When the system boots it instantly goes to the PXE menu for my network (if the cable is connected) or a missing hddd is the cable is not attached. Almost as if the boot partition is missing.

I have modified the menu.list multiple times with no luck.

Any assistance on this issue would be most appreciative.

Thanks in advance,
John

Can you attach a serial console so we get a debug output ?

comment:2 follow-up: Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

Tthats just it, im using a console rather then a serial console (do not have the h/w atm), but the behavior is like as if there is no cf card installed. If enabled, goes directly to the pxe prompt, if not, displays a message that there is no bootable device, please insert one and press F1 to continue.

This almost seems like there is a problem with grub.

Ive modified menu.lst to point to /dev/sda, /dev/sd1 and /dev/sd2.

I have also tried backfire and a generic image and all results are the same.

I did have a console cable after all and there is no output from the device, goes directly to PXE and I've triple checked the BIOS and the boot sequence is hdd, removable, network.

would rebuilding grub or using LiLo help?

comment:5 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

anybody have ANY ideas?

comment:6 Changed 5 years ago by nbd

You could try selecting grub2 under "Target images", I added that recently.

comment:7 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

OK, that worked, however now the system is hanging after 3 "br-lan: port 1(eth0) entered forwarding state" and the config options im using are generic, generic, alix wrap (menuconfig)

comment:8 Changed 5 years ago by nbd

Are you sure that it's hanging and you're not just having some issues with console input?
It sounds like it may have booted up fully.

comment:9 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

shouldnt I get a console prompt?

comment:10 Changed 5 years ago by jow

Press enter?

comment:11 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

did that on two separate keyboards, still no affect. I also tried looking for a wireless signal and there was none.

comment:12 Changed 5 years ago by jow

Wireless is off by default.

comment:13 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

ok, but that still does not address why the system is locked.

comment:14 Changed 5 years ago by jow

Well did you ping/telnet it on 192.168.1.1 ? As nbd I think its an issue with serial input and not some frozen system.

comment:15 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

what are the complete ip details for eth0? mask, gateway, broadcast, network, etc...

comment:16 Changed 5 years ago by jow

The same as always, 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0

comment:17 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

just checking :)

comment:18 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

OK, fatal flaw (prob on my part), I changed the passwd and now my telnet client no longer logs in, also Luci appears to be disabled. Im going to recompile with full luci support and go from there.

comment:19 Changed 5 years ago by nbd

how about using ssh?

comment:20 Changed 5 years ago by John Schultz <jschultz0614@…>

crap, d'uh :).

OK New problem, I can not resolve anything. will there be an issue if I set eth0 to dynamic?

comment:21 Changed 5 years ago by jow

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

Well please refer to forum or irc for basic config. I don't think the original issue is valid anymore.
