#12017 closed enhancement (wontfix)

OpenWrt.bin for Routers with 3g should be delivered with 3g capability enabled by default

Reported by: jpxsat@… Owned by: developers

Description

I have a TL-MR3420, a router that comes with 3g capability and I buyed this router because of 3g.

Wanting to use OpenWrt but I see that to get to work 3g capability is quite complicated for a very average user like me.

Isn't there a way to list the hardware that comes with 3g and build the package with 3g working by default? (with every package necessary included in the .bin file)

For example, I'd expect that after installing OpenWrt on my TL-MR3420, I can use out of the box my 3g connection (after configuring it, of course).

IMHO, if I or anybody with a router with 3g wanted a router without 3g, we certainly whould have buyed one without 3g.

This is *not* 3g router. This is router with usb port, all routers with usb can be "3g router".

openwrt trunk builds are auto generate(compile) images.
it is just a base system, by default, because it is compiled for the whole series of platform.
For the extra functions, it will become customized needed.
So you would need to compile your own image if you want to include something extra.
