#11921 new defect

ar71xx: kernel USB stack crashes on ZTE M656 usb_modeswitch.

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: 10.03.1
Keywords: ar71xx usb Cc: libv@…

usb_modeswitch with the correct data for the zte-M656 (0x19d2:0x2000), correctly probes the manufacturer and device strings of the ZTE, then switches the device, but can never detect the switched device.

/proc/bus/usb/devices still shows the old device, and even physically unplugging the usb stick leaves /proc/bus/usb/devices unchanged. This leads to only a single conclusion: the kernels usb stack has crashed.

The updated kernel in trunk works, at least for modeswitching and showing and accessing the serial devices on the ZTE stick (now 0x19d2:0x0117). The badly documented Netifd makes it impossible to actually get the interface up and have a pppd running on the newly found devices, and the nature of trunk also means that this is a no go.

Patching the kernel of backfire, or somehow porting the trunk kernel into the backfire build (which is not something that should be generalized to the whole of backfire) is the way go for this.
