Openwrt Giganet Ethernet packet size problem - Can not ping >1472 bytes packets

Reported by: mems Owned by: juhosg
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: Giganet ethernet, packet size Cc:

Description

I have installed and tested both trunk and branch versions of Openwrt for Atheros chipset. The Openwrt Atheros board has giganet ethernet and connects to CISCO Giganet Ethernet Switch (SG 200-0800).
The problem is that I could not ping packet size > 1472 bytes:

root@Openwrt:~# ping -s 1472 10.50.0.1
PING 10.50.0.1 (10.50.0.1): 1472 data bytes
1480 bytes from 10.50.0.1: seq=0 ttl=64 time=1.547 ms
1480 bytes from 10.50.0.1: seq=1 ttl=64 time=1.375 ms
C
--- 10.50.0.1 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1.375/1.461/1.547 ms
root@Openwrt:~# ping -s 1473 10.50.0.1
PING 10.50.0.1 (10.50.0.1): 1473 data bytes
C
--- 10.50.0.1 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
root@Openwrt:~# ping -s 1500 10.50.0.1
PING 10.50.0.1 (10.50.0.1): 1500 data bytes
C

But if I change to Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps Ethernet), then I can ping with packet size >=1500 bytes.

I wonder if you could give me instructions whether I could solve this bug ?

Thanks in advance

The problem you reported may be related to my problem in Bug #11731: /ticket/11731.html. TL-WR1043ND connected via WAN (gigabit ethernet mode) to Cisco SLM2008 - which is AFAIK the old name of SG200-0800.
Could you check please?

supplemental:
When reviewing error statistics on the SLM2008 I noticed, that they have not increased since the time I directly connected computers previously connected to the 802.11q enabled ports from TL-WR1043ND to the Cisco switch.

Thanks for your response. I have tested both trunk version and stable branch version for Atheros boards with giganet ethernet and connect to CISCO smart switch SG200-08P, it could not ping with packet >1472 bytes, so of course it can not transmit through VLAN packets, which have packet size >=1500 bytes.

The bug on ticket Bug #11731: /ticket/11731.html is very similar, but I could not confirm, since I have not got TL-WR1043ND, but it is very similar.

But it is little bit strange: when I tested with 4-5 years old D-LINK switch 1228p on its Giganet ethernet port, it works perfectly. I do not want to use this D-LINK, since it is reported by D-LINK and I can confirm that it has bug on Giganet Ethernet port (hang out problem)
