#11719 reopened defect

6in4: MTU in /etc/config/network is ignored

Reported by: Roman A. aka BasicXP <x12ozmouse@…> Owned by: nbd
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: 6in4 Cc:

Description

I have 6in4 configured in /etc/config/network as follows:

config interface 'IPV6'
        option proto '6in4'
        option ipaddr '<OMITTED>'
        option peeraddr '<OMITTED>'
        option ip6addr '<OMITTED>'
        option mtu '1472'

But as we can see from the ifconfig output, the MTU setting is ignored:

6in4-IPV6 Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4
          inet6 addr: fe80::d58d:9aaa/128 Scope:Link
          inet6 addr: <OMITTED> Scope:Global
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1
          RX packets:1166 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:1120 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:785264 (766.8 KiB)  TX bytes:143386 (140.0 KiB)

My guess is that the configuration script uses the MTU of the WAN interface for this, while ignoring the manually set value.

Same here. MTU configured for 1424, but ifconfig shows 1480...

Is it really working properly? Might be just cosmetics, but MTU information is still shown wrongly by ifconfig:

BARRIER BREAKER (Bleeding Edge, r35919)

ifconfig:
6in4-sixxs Link encap:IPv6-in-IPv4
          inet6 addr: fe80::3e4e:a14c/128 Scope:Link
          inet6 addr: 2001:xxxx::2/64 Scope:Global
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1

-----
/etc/config/network
config interface 'sixxs'
        option proto '6in4'
        option mtu '1424'
        option ttl '64'

in Barrier Breaker r36467 its not working. he.net tunnel mtu is set to 1280 but mtu from sit interface is 1480 and from 6in4-henet is 1444.

Maybe related to this: netalayzr says i have an ipv6 fragmentation problem.
