This is seen on the mount that comes with the utils-linux package:
mount from util-linux 2.21.2 (libmount 2.21.0: debug)

The mount command in busybox works fine:
mount: invalid option -- V
BusyBox v1.19.4 (2012-06-13 10:44:56 JST) multi-call binary.

+1: getting rid of util-linux/mount-utils and recreating mount/umount symlinks to busybox fixes it.
