Please try to use a powered hub, it sounds like the 3G drains too much power

comment:2 Changed 6 years ago by arickbro@…

When using original firmware from tp-link, it behave normally.
I try to decrease wifi power to the minimum, but no change.
is there another way to increase power on usb rather than using powered hub?
adding capacitor maybe?

comment:3 Changed 6 years ago by arickbro@…

the problem still exist on kernel 3.3.8
3g modem got hangup after few minute when wifi enabled.

I can confirm this problem, I am using openwrt latest trunk build and also huawei 3g modems (e-169 and e-1782). 3g or wifi always drop.

Did you try to reduce the wifi txpower?

I just tried. txpower -> 6, still drop.

config wifi-device radio0

option htmode HT20

list ht_capab SHORT-GI-40
list ht_capab RX-STBC1
list ht_capab DSSS_CCK-40
# REMOVE THIS LINE TO ENABLE WIFI:
#option disabled 1
option txpower 6

config wifi-iface

option device radio0
option network lan

by the way, I post this reply using 3g + cable connection, stable and no problem. once wifi is enabled, one of 3g/wifi will drop.

I think the problem might because of huawei E-169, I changed txpower from default -> 20 -> 18 -> 14, it still drop.

but huawei E-1782, no problem now, wifi also is very stable.

I tried "iw phy0 info" and I notice the txpower still shows "20dBm" whatever you put in /etc/config/wireless.

hi, i'm got same problem here.
using TP-Link MR3040, with 3G Dongle Huawei EC1261-2 (CDMA/EVDO).

connection will terminate when wifi is on, but it will stable when wifi off.

You managed to solve this issue?

My 2 cents. Make sure you ise the power supply that was included with the MR3020. You may not be supplying enough power to the base unit to support the 3G modem.

so there is no solution for this? basically openwrt on this router is unusable if you bought mr3020 for sharing 3G connection over wlan...
