Try to change kernel compression mode: LZMA -> gzip
make kernel_menuconfig / General Setup / Kernel compression mode

Forgot to say that the generic zImage works fine (both tested on a gateworks cambria)

Same issue observed here with latest trunk also using Gateworks Cambria boards.

switching kernel over to gzip compression works but kernel size is bloated by about 50% over lzma.

I checked kernel option "Auto calculation of the decompressed kernel image address" and it work fine on ADI Pronghorn.

make kernel_menuconfig / Boot options / [*] Auto calculation of the decompressed kernel image address

Faced same issue while booting on ixp4xx board with linux kernel 3.3.8 after enabling the CONFIG_KERNEL_KALLSYMS. IT boots well if it is disabled.
