#10475 new defect

usb-modeswitch "seemingly" fails, stick works fine

Reported by: Rolf Leggewie <dev.openwrt.org@…> Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Backfire 10.03.1 RC6
Keywords: Cc:

Description

This is for a self-compiled 2.6 kernel (Backfire (10.03.1-RC6, r29275)), a CatchTec CW-5354U router (broadcom chipset) and a Vodafone-branded Huawei K3565 made by Huawei. Upon insertion of the USB dongle a bunch of lines like

Sep 8 15:55:49 OpenWrt user.notice usb-modeswitch: switching seemingly failed
Sep 8 15:55:49 OpenWrt user.notice usb-modeswitch: switching seemingly failed

appear several times in logread output. gcom on the device works fine, so it looks as if the stick is then initialized fine after all.

So what are we supposed to do?

comment:2 follow-up: Changed 6 years ago by anonymous

adding a small delay (for example "sleep 3") after line 'log "switching seemingly failed" '
in "/etc/hotplug.d/usb/20-modeswitch" file helps.
my modem needs more time to properly initialize.
with above modification my modem is always properly configured at boot.
