Hostapd WPA: EAPOL-Key timeout after 7 bridge events

Reported by: dap@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: base system Version: Backfire 10.03.1 RC6
Keywords: hostapd Cc:

If I run:

root@OpenWrt:~# brctl addif br-lan eth1; brctl delif br-lan eth1

7 (or more) times, I can't connect to my WRT160NL any more. I can reproduce it any time. eth1 is unused, unconfigured, DOWN. The error message is "WPA: EAPOL-Key timeout".

An OpenVPN running in tap mode hits this bug first on the reconnects (the tap interface re-added automatically on reconnect).

My bridge configuration:

root@OpenWrt:~# brctl show
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
br-lan 8000.687f74b0ef90 no eth0

I attached my hostapd.conf and 2 hostapd debug outputs; one with 6 brctl cycle and a successful client connection, one with 7 brctl cycle and "EAPOL-Key timeout".

I found an old mail, may be relevant to this issue:

what openwrt version are you using? is this still an issue in latest trunk, which has a newer hostapd version than backfire?

I was running openwrt-ar71xx-wrt160nl-squashfs-factory.bin (10.03.1-RC6, r28680)

The latest trunk is OK! Thanks.
