iPhone USB Tethering support

Reported by: wlists@… Owned by: nico
Priority: normal Milestone: Features Paradise
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: iphone usb Cc: wlists@…

Attached is my attempt to get iPhone USB tethering working, I am able to get some of the basic communication working, but there seems to be some sort of corruption happening on my ar71xx based buffalo AG300H. Pairing and running ideviceinfo will only work some of the time.

I thought I would post it up here to see if anyone else can get it working further.

It includes the following packages:
the ipheth kernel driver

I'm not sure if the formatting, categories etc. is correct, i just added them into the package directory in trunk.

iPhone USB Tethering patch

Don't know if this could have something to do with it, but the libplist is old and, it could probablly be an unstable release (not even number). libimobiledevice states libplist 1.4 as the current library. Current repository for libplist is direct link for the suggested file is

Will take a look into it :)

Thanks for the diff to get me started

Best regards

Thanks, libimobiledevice, libplist & usbmuxd were added in r29714.

Adding usb-net-ipheth & hotplugging support are what's left for now.

Any progress on this issue?

Anything I can do to make it work manually?

I'd really like to see this feature happen.

I kept playing with this after initially submitting the patch, but I couldn't get it to work using various versions of the supporting libraries, My thoughts were that iOS 5 devices weren't supported for tethering using libimobiledevice.

Reading the news section on mentions that there is a new version of libplist that supports iPhone 4S, so this may be all that is required to get it to work, i don't have time to compile and test it at the moment.

In the table at the bottom of the site it says that USB Internet Tethering is supported in version 4.3.5, i don't know if that includes all following releases or not? and it says "It appears to have some issues on iOS 4.2+."
