#7572 closed defect (fixed)

tcpdump does not work on new PPP devices

Reported by: porter.adam@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

In kamikaze, you were able to run tcpdump on a ppp interface with no issues:

# tcpdump -i ppp0
device ppp0 entered promiscuous mode
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
listening on ppp0, link-type LINUX_SLL (Linux cooked), capture size 96 bytes

In trunk, PPP devices have modified names (ppp-wan, 3g-wan, etc...) and I have been wholly unsuccessful in running tcpdump on these devices. It merely skips the device and sniffs on something else:

tcpdump -i 3g-wan
device imq0 entered promiscuous mode
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode
listening on imq0, link-type LINUX_SLL (Linux cooked), capture size 96 bytes

Any ideas?
