#6732 closed defect (fixed)

iwlist doesn't show encryption used

Reported by: yan@… Owned by: nbd
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Kamikaze trunk
Keywords: iwlist Cc:

Description

with older Kamikaze, iwlist would provide a list of of encryption used:

          Cell 02 - Address: 00:1A:1E:17:E3:21
                    ESSID:"4jauth"
                    Mode:Managed
                    Channel:3
                    Quality:2/5 Signal level:-77 dBm Noise level:-90 dBm
                    IE: IEEE 802.11i/WPA2 Version 1
                        Group Cipher : TKIP
                        Pairwise Ciphers (1) : CCMP
                        Authentication Suites (1) : 802.1x
                    IE: WPA Version 1
                        Group Cipher : TKIP
                        Pairwise Ciphers (1) : TKIP
                        Authentication Suites (1) : 802.1x
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s; 9 Mb/s
                              11 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s; 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s
                              48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s

The newest iwlist in KAMIKAZE (bleeding edge, r19530) doesn't do that:

          Cell 08 - Address: 00:1A:1E:18:02:A1
                    ESSID:"4jauth"
                    Mode:Managed
                    Channel:1
                    Quality:2/5 Signal level:-75 dBm Noise level:-99 dBm
                    (Unknown Wireless Token 0x8C05)
                    (Unknown Wireless Token 0x8C05)
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s; 9 Mb/s
                              11 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s; 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s
                              48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s

This is both with the 2.6 kernel and b43 driver and the 2.4.37 kernel and the broadcomm driver.

Copying binary iwlist from 8.09.1 solves the problem. in other words, wireless-tools_29-2_mipsel.ipk works, and wireless-tools_29-4_mipsel.ipk is broken.

The binary from 8.09.1 almost works.... It reports the wrong channel but otherwise reports correct information.
